Why it stays with you
A convention and art center in Marunouchi. The draw isn't whatever event is on, it's the building itself: the great atrium of the glass hall, shaped like an upturned ship's hull, is one of the finest spaces in Tokyo. It has 8 halls large and small and more than 30 meeting rooms, with some 4,000 events a year running through it — meaning you're not looking at a tourist site, you're looking in on Tokyo at work. From 7:00 in the morning to 23:30 at night, each floor has a different character. A good route: come in from the ground-level plaza, look up at the glass hall, and carry straight on into a walk around Marunouchi. The light through the glass after dark is a different thing again.
