Why it stays with you

OMO7 Yokohama opened in 2026 inside a building that governed the city for 60 years. The administrative wing of the former Yokohama City Hall, designed by Togo Murano and completed in 1959, is a postwar modernist work; it survived the redevelopment when the council wing and the citizens' hall did not. Hoshino Resorts brought it back as a legacy hotel, so a guest is not checking into a new property but staying inside Yokohama's memory of itself.

The night is worth it because a significant building is being kept in use. Murano's grand staircase and other original detailing carry over whole, and 276 rooms have been fitted inside the old frame. The library lounge and work room serve residents and also take small meetings and closed sessions. In front of Kannai Station, the hotel doubles as an entrance to the port city, with the Red Brick Warehouse, Yamashita Park and Chinatown all within walking distance.

It pairs an urban stay with an architectural story. Instead of another interchangeable business hotel, guests sleep in a Murano building, are photographed under the grand staircase and hold a closed session inside the old city hall, which makes the stay the lead rather than the logistics. For architecture-minded travelers, and for groups that want an urban base with a story, that is not substitutable.
